Bath Breathes 2021 - Timeline


To comply with the Government’s directive and protect residents’ health, we must tackle pollution at NO2 hotspots in Bath by 2021 at the latest.

The Government has given us a framework and clear deadlines to meet.

We welcome feedback and questions from the public throughout the process.

By January 2018

  • Complete data and evidence gathering (e.g. Automatic Number Plate Recognition Survey)
  • Review the long list of ideas submitted by the public during the consultation on Bath’s Air Quality Action Plan

By March 2018

  • Assess the benefits, impact and effectiveness of the long list against the Government’s criteria and timeline
  • Compile a short list of the best packages of measures
  • Present the assessment and rationale to Defra and the DfT

By September 2018

  • Seek public views on the short list
  • Fully assess the impacts on air quality, health, residents and the economy
  • Select a preferred package of measure
  • Present the assessment and rationale to Defra, DfT and the Council’s Cabinet

By December 2018

  • Finalise the design of the preferred package, with input from the community
  • Present the final package, along with a full business case, to Defra, DfT and the Council’s Cabinet

By December 2019

  • Implement the agreed package of measures so that air quality improvements in Bath are realised by 2021 at the latest
