I begin on a sad note this week following the death of former Mayor of Bath Carol Paradise, who also served as a Councillor for Kingsmead and Twerton. Although initially we were on different sides of the Council, for 5 or 6 years I would pick her up in my car on the way to attend licencing sub-committee meetings, and we would regularly put the world to rights.

She was a lovely lady with a great sense of humour and will be missed by everyone at Bath & North East Somerset Council. My thoughts and condolences are with her family at this time.

On a brighter note I had the pleasure this week of being invited to attend the Christmas celebration of the Jane Lilley Singers at The Guildhall. I was told that Christmas doesn’t start until you’ve heard this local group perform and I completely agree as I thoroughly enjoyed it.

There was an appearance from the Minuendos, a group of 11 to 18 year old singers and musicians, who are always on the lookout for new members. It was a great night of music and entertainment and the amount of local talent we have is quite mind blowing, move over X Factor!

As we head into the festive season I will be keeping a close eye on Bath Rugby as they take on Wasps on Christmas Eve and Exeter Chiefs on New Year’s Eve. Two tough games, but I’m sure they can pick up some points.

Finally, as this will be my last blog of the year, I would like to end by wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas and I look forward to a great 2017.
