Help Reduce Air Pollution: Join Bath Anti-Idling Event
Bath Living Streets are looking for volunteers who are keen to help improve air quality in central Bath. We have organised a series of monthly no idling events targeting idling hotspots in Abbey and Walcot wards and asking drivers who are idling their engines when parked for over a minute to switch off. Idling, leaving your engine running while parked, is an unnecessary source of pollution. As a Bath Clean Air Champion volunteer you will receive training prior to the event where you will learn about air pollution and health and the approach that we use when talking to drivers. You will be given tips on how to be persuasive in a short amount of time, and how to respond to drivers’ possible reasons for idling.
At the event, pairs of volunteers will go out on the streets to engage with drivers and ask them to switch off their engines to help improve local air quality. Many drivers simply do not realise that idling is bad for the environment and the approach of positive and constructive engagement has achieved an excellent success rate in other areas. The vast majority of drivers are very willing to switch off when encouraged to do so and pledge not to idle in the future.
If you’d like to get involved these events are taking place on Saturday 28th April at 10:15am, or Thursday 24th May at 10:15am and 2pm. You can find out more information and sign up through the Volunteers page of www.idlingactionbath.org or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org
