The Planning Policy team is responsible for providing planning policies to guide future development in the district. These policies will be set out in the Development Plan Documents (DPDs) and Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) listed below.

Latest News
Mendip District Council is currently consulting on Main Modification to the Mendip Local Plan Part 2 which include proposed allocation of housing sites adjoining Midsomer Norton. The deadline for comments to be submitted to Mendip District Council is 2nd March 2020. Please click here for further information.
North Somerset Council’s meeting of the full council on 7 January 2020, approved the withdrawal of the Joint Spatial Plan (JSP). Bath & North East Somerset full council met on 16 January 2020 and also approved the withdrawal of the JSP. South Gloucestershire Council’s full council meeting of the 12 February 2020 also approved the withdrawal of the JSP. Bristol is expected to make a decision at a future council meeting. West of England authorities remain committed to working positively with WECA to address its strategic planning needs of the region, and will be jointly commissioning a refresh of the strategic evidence base to inform future development.
A revised Local Development Scheme will be prepared, considered by Council and published in due course to take into account the above points.

- The Houses in Multiple Occupation SPD has been revised and the new policies adopted in November 2017
- The Placemaking Plan - Bath and North East Somerset Council’s Placemaking Plan was formally adopted by the Council on 13th July 2017.
- The Local Development Scheme (LDS) includes the published programme and timetable of forthcoming Planning Policy work. Please consult it as it is updated when the programme or schedule changes.
