Weston All Saints Primary School

Bath & North East Somerset Council received funding in 2010 from the national Primary Capital Programme.  The Council prioritised investment totalling £8.4 million to replace very poor condition buildings at Batheaston CE Primary, Bathford CE Primary, Midsomer Norton Primary, and Weston All Saints CE Primary.  All four building projects are now complete.

Batheaston CE Primary School

Batheaston CE Primary School received a total of £2.15m.  The old post-war concrete buildings and temporary wooden buildings were demolished and replaced with a new block.  This consists of a new assembly hall so that it can hold whole school assemblies, PE and put on plays, two new classrooms for the reception and Year 6 pupils, small group space, and new serving kitchen producing delicious healthy food for the school and community.

The whole school community involved themselves in the scheme.

Batheaston CE Primary School is the winner of the South West Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors Community Benefit category and Winner of the West of England Local Authority Building Control Building Excellence award 2012.

The scheme’s success is due to the close engagement of school head and governors with the design team throughout the planning and construction process to ensure the new buildings fully met and supported the educational ethos and aims of Batheaston CE Primary School.

Bathford CE Primary

The £750,000 project at Bathford has removed two temporary buildings and developed a new hall, kitchen and reception area.

The school has wanted to replace its hall for 14 years and the facelift will make holding assemblies and organising lunches much easier.

Midsomer Norton Primary

Somerset celebrity Michael Eavis CBE enjoyed a festival atmosphere when he officially opened Midsomer Norton Primary School’s new £2.3 million development, funded by Bath & North East Somerset Council.

Pupils from the school welcomed the Glastonbury Festival founder on Tuesday 3 July 2012 with a celebration event featuring musical performances from the drumming group and choir in the new school hall, before all the children took part in a flag parade. Michael Eavis CBE then cut the ribbon on the new school development.

The improvements carried out at the school over the last year replaced several poor condition temporary buildings and have provided a new entrance to the school, new school hall, servery, reception classrooms and nursery, and administrative suite.

Weston All Saints C of E Primary School (WASPS)

Weston All Saints C of E Primary School’s (WASP’s) new £3.5m teaching block, built by Bath & North East Somerset Council was officially opened by Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Gloucester on Tuesday 9 October 2012.

The 1950s-built Junior block, which suffered from structural problems, has been demolished and replaced by the new building which not only provides new facilities but is linked to the existing Infant block, providing a more cohesive school campus.

As part of her visit, Her Royal Highness met staff and pupils and saw the outstanding new teaching block.

Anne Bull, Headteacher of Weston All Saints CE Primary School, said: “Everyone associated with the school is delighted with our new facilities.  We have worked together with the Council to provide a wonderful school environment which will provide excellent teaching and learning space for our children.”

Bath & North East Somerset Council’s contractors Midas completed the new block at a cost of £3.5million. The facilities include eight classrooms, a large hall and arts and crafts spaces. The school also took the opportunity to fund the replacement and relocation of its learner swimming pool to an area between the two buildings – and the external landscaping includes a pond with an island and a ‘magical grotto’ designed by the pupils.
