There are three choices for households wanting to recycle their garden waste. Composting at home is our preferred method. But there are also collection services available.
What do we collect?
Every fortnight, we provide garden waste collections for a charge. Households can use our wheeled bin service or buy our individual paper sacks that are biodegradable and suitable for composting. We pick-up:
- Garden waste
- Flower and plant waste
- Grass cuttings
- Leaves and bark
- Hedge prunings
How to put your garden waste out for collection
Please put out your garden waste in your green garden waste bin or Council garden waste sack at the edge of you property closest to the highway between 8pm the night before and 7am on the day of your scheduled fortnightly collection day.
If we are unable to fully empty your garden waste bin because the contents are frozen, we will return on your next scheduled collection day.

Garden waste bin collection charges
You can choose between a large (240 litre, H 107cm x W 58cm x 73cm) or small bin (140 litre, H 106cm x W 49cm x 55cm). Both services cost £42.00 for 12 months collection service. Please note that during the Christmas and New Year period no garden waste collections will take place (please see the garden waste collection calendar for the inclusive dates) but we do collect garden waste on all other bank holidays. There is a one-off delivery charge of £2.78 for either bin.
Recognising that not everyone will start their bin collection at the beginning of the year, there is charging guidance showing the subscription amounts for each month of the year bringing new users into line with existing users for annualised billing.
Ordering and paying for your new garden waste bin collection
You can order a new garden waste bin collection service through Council Connect on 01225 39 40 41. Please allow 28 days for both bin delivery and sticker to validate your collection.
Garden Waste Renewal
For existing customers, a payment reminder is issued in April/May. Using your reference number you can pay online by clicking on the Garden Waste Renewal option in the menu. Once you have paid we will send you a sticker as proof of payment to the collection crews. Please display it clearly on your wheeled bin.
If you do not receive this within three weeks of making a payment, contact Council Connect.
Forgotten to pay?
You will be left a red hanger on your wheeled bin and it will not be emptied. Contact Council Connect and inform them you have been left a red enforcement hanger on your bin.
