When and where to register a death
A death should be registered within 5 days, unless the Coroner is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
If the person died in Bath and North East Somerset
PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR OFFICE AT THE HOLLIES, MIDSOMER NORTON WILL BE CLOSED FROM 7th FEB 2018 UNTIL THE END OF JUNE 2018 FOR RENOVATION WORKS.
If it would be easier for you to attend a Register Office outside Bath and North East Somerset, you may register the death by declaration at any Register Office in England or Wales.
If you register the death by declaration you will not be given the death certificate at the appointment. We will send the death certificate to you by post once we have received the declaration paperwork from the Register Office you attended.
If the person died outside of Bath and North East Somerset, but still in England or Wales
You should contact the Register Office in the district where they died. Please see find a register office on the GOV.UK website.
If it would be easier for you to attend one of our Register Offices, you may register the death by declaration.
If you register the death by declaration you will not be given the death certificate at the appointment. The declaration paperwork will be sent on to the Register Office in the district where the death occurred. They will then issue the death certificate and send it to you by post.
If the person died outside of England and Wales, but still within the UK
