Street Collection Permit

Summary

To collect money or sell articles for the benefit of charitable or other purposes, you require a street collection permit.

Application Form 

On the form you will need to:

  • tell us the name, address, phone number and email address of the Promoter/Organiser;
  • tell us the name and registered number of the charity;
  • select the date, time and location you would like your collection to take place. 

The bookable locations are:

  • Bath North - Milsom Street (below Quiet Street only), New Bond Street, Burton Street and Northgate Street, High Street and Union Street
  • Bath South - Stall Street, Southgate Street and Abbey Churchyard
  • Bath Southgate Shopping Centre - you must first obtain permission from the agents for Southgate by emailing info@southgatebath.com or calling them on 01225 469061 before completing the form.  Please ensure that the details you provide to SouthGate are the same used on the application form.
  • Keynsham
  • Midsomer Norton/Radstock - not on the pedestrianised area outside Sainsbury's/The Hollies.

 

If you require a different location you will need to contact us at licensing@bathnes.gov.uk.

 

You will be able to book up to 365 days in advance. 

 

If you intend to to hold a promotional event or use tables, stalls etc. then please email our Highways team on highways@bathnes.gov.uk or telephone 01225 394265.

 

Due to high demand, collections in all locations can only be from 9 am to 1 pm, or from 1 pm to 5 pm.  Customers are restricted to one morning and one afternoon in any seven day period.

On receipt of your application we will check that the charity is registered.

Once you submit your application, your permit will be sent to you by email.

Validity/Renewals

Unless a shorter period is specifically stated, all licences will be granted for the period of the collection.

Conditions 

There are legal regulations for carrying out Street Collections, which include what collectors must and must not do.  A copy of these regulations are sent to you with the permit, but you can print a copy using the link below if you prefer:

Within one month of the collection, the Council must have received a financial return, known as a Form of Statement, showing how much money was collected and how much of this went to the charity.  It must also be signed by a qualified accountant.  A blank Form of Statement will be sent to you with your permit, but you can print a copy using the link below if you prefer:

Permitted Collection Areas

Collections for Bath city centre are authorised for the following streets only:

  • Milsom Street (below Quiet Street only)
  • New Bond Street, Burton Street
  • Northgate Street
  • High Street
  • Union Street
  • Stall Street
  • Abbey Churchyard
  • Southgate (Any collectors wishing to collect in the Southgate area of Bath must first obtain permission from info@southgatebath.com).

    Collections for Midsomer Norton are not authorised on the pedestrianised area outside Sainsbury's/The Hollies.

Areas to Avoid

 

Big Issue sellers have been allocated pitches at the following locations in Bath, so you must avoid collecting in these areas:

  • outside the Body Shop, Burton Street
  • outside Molton Brown, Union Street
  • between Pret a Manger and Costa, Stall Street
  • between Abbey Churchyard and Kingston Parade
  • outside HMV, Stall Street
  • outside JJB Sports, High Street
  • outside the Podium, Northgate Street
