Alcohol Misuse

If you, or someone you know is drinking alcohol to excess, there is support available for you.

Alcohol misuse is linked to a range of health disorders, including high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease, some cancers and depression. Tackling the impact of harmful and dependent drinking is a key public health priority for Bath & North East Somerset Council.

If you would like to tackle your alcohol intake, visit Change4Life, the NHS-funded site where you can learn how to make healthy changes, including a handy unit calculator to track your drinking.

If you want some support to deal with your own drinking or someone else's, please have a look through our information below.

The government’s lower risk guidelines are different for men and women. They recommend that you do not regularly drink more than:

-       3-4 units a day for men

-       2-3 units a day for women

If you would like more information on how many units are in your drink, suggestions of alternatives to drinking and details of the health risks alcohol can cause please visit the Change4Life and Drink Aware websites.
