What is the Early Years Pupil Premium?

As of April 2015, a number of three and four year olds in early years settings (e.g. Nurseries, Childminders and Pre-Schools) in England can benefit from extra funding in the form of the early years pupil premium, if they meet certain criteria set by Government.  Childcare providers could receive approximately £300 for each eligible child who attends for the full EYE year (570 hours).

How will it help my child?

If you are eligible, your childcare provider (Nursery, Childminder or Pre-School) will work with you to decide how best to use the additional funding to support your child, and will need to demonstrate to Ofsted the benefits to your child of the additional funding.

How do I check if I am eligible?

If your child receives the 15 hours early years entitlement funding, and is 3 or 4 years old, you can check if your Nursery, Childminder or Pre-School qualifies for the Early Years Pupil Premium, by contacting our team on 01225 394317.  You will need to have your National Insurance number with you.

When would my child be eligible?

Three and four year olds will be eligible for the Early Years Pupil Premium straight away if they are accessing the early years entitlement and if they meet the eligibility criteria.

Does my child have to use the full early years entitlement (i.e. 570 hours) to be eligible for the EYPP?

Children attending any number of hours of funded childcare can be eligible for the Early Years Pupil Premium.  Nurseries, Childminders or Pre-Schools will receive EYPP funding that is proportionate to the number of hours that a child is taking up.

How often will the Local Authority check that my child is eligible?

We will only need to check children’s eligibility once a year.

How will parents know if the EYPP is being paid to the Nursery/Childminder/Pre-School?

We will check, and let you know if you are eligible.  You will be given a unique reference number to give to your Nursery, Childminder or Pre-School.

Which childcare providers will be able to receive the Early Years Pupil Premium?

All registered childcare providers that take children for the funded early education entitlement – including school nurseries and maintained nursery schools; private, voluntary and independent providers; and childminders – will be eligible to claim the EYPP for eligible three and four year olds.
