The Early Years (EY) Service offers support, advice and training to all registered childminders in Bath & North East Somerset. We offer:

  • Support to all childminders judged by Ofsted to be Inadequate or Requires Improvement
  • Support to those judged Good or Outstanding by Ofsted
  • Support to childminders caring for funded two year olds and/or children funded through the Community Childminding Scheme
  • Face to face contact at Childminding Groups held within Children’s Centres
  • A high quality, affordable Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme
Support to all childminders judged by Ofsted to be Inadequate or Requires Improvement

The local authority has a statutory duty to offer support, advice and guidance to all settings judged Inadequate or Requires Improvement. A tailored package of support is offered to these childminders, which could include a home visit as well as email/telephone support from a member of the Childminding Team.

Support to those judged Good or Outstanding by Ofsted

The Childminding Team offer email and telephone support, as well as face to face contact at Childminding Groups

Support to childminders caring for funded two year olds and /or children funded through the Community Childminding Scheme

Childminders caring for children through these funding routes are offered a visit, as well as email/telephone contact,  to support them with planning and monitoring effectively, with a focus on ‘closing the gap’ in children’s attainment. 

Childminding Groups in Children’s Centres

The Childminding Team offer advice and support regularly at Childminding Groups held within local Children’s Centres. This gives childminders the opportunity to have face to face contact with the team. 

Continuing Professional Development Programme (CPD)

All CPD opportunities are detailed on the EYFS section of the online Hub and are attached to this page.  All bookings must be made via the online Hub.  All individual practitioners can obtain their own login. http://thehub.bathnes.gov.uk/Home.

In addition, premium members of the Hub can access documents, audits, toolkits developed by the Early Years Service.  Some folders are available at a small cost.
