Mother and baby reading a book together

Children and young people are welcome in all our libraries

All our libraries have children's areas with dedicated collections for children and young adults. We also offer children’s e-books on the LibrariesWest website. Our libraries have computers that children can use free of charge and many also have printing facilities and free Wi-Fi. We run regular children's events in all our branches as well as the annual Summer Reading Challenge. Come and see what we have to offer!

No child is too young to join the library. Board books, picture books and first reading books are perfect to share with young children. Children aged 0-5 will love Bear's Reading Adventure. We also participate in the national Bookstart scheme and have Story Sacks which can be loaned by early years settings and childminders.

For older children, we hold children's storybooks and fiction for all ages and abilities. If you enjoy listening to stories, why not try our audiobooks for children. We have a wide range of fact and information books for all interests and to help with homework. Children's DVDs are available to hire in all our branches. There are collections for young adults in all our libraries too.

All books and children's audiobooks are free to borrow on under 18's library cards. If you can't see what you're looking for, we may be able to reserve it for you. It is free to request items from the LibrariesWest catalogue.

How to join

It's free to join the library and we encourage children and young people to become members. You can join online or by calling in to any library branch in person. If you are under the age of 16, then you must have the permission of a parent or guardian who is willing to act as your guarantor and sign your membership card on your first visit. We look forward to welcoming you.
