Archives and Local Studies Service

The Archives and Local Studies Service is based at Bath Record Office in the Guildhall.

Bath Record Office collects and keeps safe historical records relating to Bath, and makes them available for research to all who wish to use them.

The collection incorporates the majority of the Local Studies reference stock and Special Collections previously available in Bath Central Library.

In the strongrooms there are over three kilometres of shelving, filled with records dating from 1189, the time of Richard the Lionheart, to the present day.

Bath Record Office supports research into the past and present by making information available to the public.

Some items are kept in store offsite; these can be requested with a minimum of 2 working days warning.

All who wish to use this wonderful resource are welcome, and staff are happy to give you help and advice with your research.

You can also find out about life in Georgian Bath by searching our Georgian Newspaper Project database.
