Employment & Skills Check Service

If you are unemployed and returning to the workplace or have recently returned to work and are looking to gain more paid hours or change your job or career the Council now offers an Employment & Skills Check Service in the One Stop Shop in Bath and Keynsham. Initially this is an hour appointment with a work support advisor who can help you with your CV, how you look for and apply for jobs, interview practice, provide information on Tax Credits and other support available when returning to work, self-employment options, planning a career change, advice and information around volunteering and work experience to boost your employability or any aspect of work related activity.

Citizens Advice
Offer free, confidential, impartial and independent advice on benefit entitlement and also debt management and general financial advice. Local support available by telephone and drop in sessions on the Work Clubs and Enterprise Clubs web pages.

Debt Advice Foundation
A registered national debt advice and education charity offering free, confidential support and advice to anyone worried about loans, credit and debt. Advice provided is impartial and based solely on what is best for you.

The national government run website offering a range of advice on money, tax and benefits  and debt management.   

StepChange Debt Charity
If you need debt help, make sure you get it from a free provider such as StepChange Debt Charity. They have over 20 years’ experience providing free debt advice and solutions.

Welfare Support Scheme 
This scheme is designed to help local residents who are in extreme financial difficulties if they cannot afford to pay for essential daily living needs, household items, or in some cases Council Tax and Discretionary Housing Payments. This is a non-cash scheme and you must be a resident, and registered at an address in Bath & North East Somerset. There is no guarantee that you will get help under this scheme. The funds are limited and will only be provided for emergency and short-term assistance.
