Bath's Clean Air Zone
In early 2021 we're launching a clean air zone (CAZ) in Bath that will help to urgently reduce nitrogen dioxide (NO2) in the city - a type of air pollution which can worsen heart and lung conditions and trigger asthma attacks.
While the CAZ specifically tackles rising vehicle emissions in Bath's city centre, air quality will improve across the whole city.
The zone is part of wider work to tackle climate emergency and improve the environment for everyone who lives and works in Bath & North East Somerset.
About the zone
After significant consultation with the public, the council decided on a class C clean air zone (CAZ), charging most higher-emission vehicles to drive in the city centre from early 2021 (delayed from November 2020).
The scheme also features proposals to reduce the flow of traffic into Queen Square, and a range of support to encourage a shift to cleaner travel and transport. This includes a financial assistance scheme to help those affected by charges to upgrade their vehicles.
We're urging you to now check your vehicles to see if you'll be charged, or whether exemptions apply.
Cars and motorbikes (excluding taxis and private hires) will not be charged in the zone, regardless of emissions.
