What are we proposing to do?
The Bath River Line is an exciting green infrastructure project to rejuvenate the river corridor through Bath, from Newbridge to Batheaston. We are currently developing the project with support from the West of England Combined Authority. The project is looking at ways to improve the towpath, parks and open spaces, and public realm directly next to the river, to benefit nature, communities, and our sustainable transport infrastructure.
We’d like your views on developing the parks and path on the western section of the Bath River Line, from Newbridge to Bath Quays. You can view our map to see the exact route. Do you use any of the parks along the route – Brassmill Lane, Kelson’s Fields, Norfolk Crescent, or Green Park? Do you use the towpath for recreation or commuting? What would improve these spaces and encourage greater use?
Why are we consulting?
We are consulting to get people’s early thoughts and views that can be used to inform the design process, and identify a range of improvements that users would like to see. There have already been some concept designs done as part of the WaterSpace Study that we would like your opinion on, but don’t be restrained by these designs. We are looking for any new ideas that will improve the spaces and help make them accessible for all.
What are we consulting on?
We are consulting on the designs produced as part of the WaterSpace Study. The four designs are:
For each space we would like you to tell us:
- What you like about the space
- What you dislike about the space
- What improvements you would like to see
- Any comments you have on the proposed design
We are looking to improve the riverside towpath for all users, through managing the plants and trees, widening where possible, and new benches and bins. We want to know what:
- You like about the towpath
- You dislike about the towpath
- Improvements you would like to see

What happens next?
Draft designs will be produced that reflect the feedback from this consultation, and ideas to improve the spaces. There will then be a further consultation for input into the final design in March 2021.
