Use this page to learn about the support and guidance we will give you around parenting if you are a care-experienced young person.
Being a parent can be challenging and is a huge learning curve. We want to make sure you have the support and guidance you need when pregnant and during your child’s first year of life.
Financial help you can get
- We can pay for your scan photographs if there is a cost.
- We can support two people with their travel costs to accompany you to the birth.
- We will support you to check you have important items for your baby (by accessing grants, charities, and considering a discretionary grant of up to £100).
Our promise
- We would like to celebrate this important milestone with you.
- We all need advice when learning to be a parent at different times, and we can support you with this.
- We can take you to pre- and post-natal appointments (also, discuss birthing partner/support with you).
- We can support you to register your baby’s birth.
- We will provide you, as a parent, with a gift hamper when your child is born.
- We will talk to you about having support from a Family Nurse so you have extra advice and guidance, which can be offered throughout your pregnancy and until your baby is 2 years old.
- We know becoming a parent is a huge adjustment and if you (or we) have any worries then we will talk to you about this.
- If it’s agreed that your baby should have a Social Worker, we’ll support you to speak to them, and meet with them, and ensure you understand what’s happening.
- We can provide you with the opportunity to have a Family Group Conference during pregnancy to identify support from your friends and family network. And we can consider Lifelong Links with you (where we support you to reconnect with important people from your past).
- Our Footprints service can provide therapeutic, practical, and emotional support to you if you have not got your child/children in your care.
If your child is not in your care
If you are living apart from your baby or children (this can be for a range of reasons), we will continue to support you in maintaining a connection with your child or children (such as Letterbox, or direct family time including transport costs).
