You can celebrate important occasions with family and friends by booking a range of statutory and non-statutory ceremonies at the Register Office in Bath.
You can book a non-statutory ceremony in any of our ceremony rooms in the Guildhall or any of our Approved Premises. Alternatively, we can conduct a commitment ceremony in a private home or other venue.
Non-statutory ceremonies
A non-statutory ceremony carries no legal status but provides a wonderful occasion for family and friends to gather and celebrate a meaningful occasion. You can expand the following headings to learn more about the non-statutory ceremonies that we offer:
Naming Ceremonies offer a non-religious alternative to Christenings or religious welcome ceremony.
The ceremony is an opportunity to welcome your new arrival into the family and make promises of commitment involving family and friends in a unique celebration.
Commitment Ceremonies are intended for adult couples, of any gender, who wish to celebrate their commitment to each without entering into a legal marriage or civil partnership. They are ideal for couples who cannot marry for legal reasons or for those who simply do not wish to marry/form a civil partnership.
The cost of this ceremony will depend on which venue you choose. Please see a full list of venues.
Renewal of Marriage or Civil Partnership Vows Ceremonies provide a unique platform for couples who wish to restate their commitment to one another.
You could celebrate a landmark wedding anniversary with a special ceremony, or maybe you had a small wedding and now have the time and money to celebrate it again? Whatever the reason we can make your special day even more memorable.

A humanist-style marriage or civil partnership ceremony is a non-religious celebration that focuses on the couple’s personal beliefs and values. These ceremonies are conducted by a registrar celebrant and are highly personalised to reflect the couple’s story, values, and wishes.
It's important to note that humanist-style ceremonies are not legally binding in England and Wales. Couples often have a separate legal ceremony at a registry office to fulfil the legal requirements too.

A private citizenship ceremony is a personalised event where you officially become a British citizen. A private ceremony is more intimate and can be tailored to you.
During the ceremony, you will make an oath of allegiance to the King and a pledge of loyalty to the United Kingdom. You’ll also receive your certificate of British citizenship and a small gift from the council.
Statutory ceremonies
A statutory ceremony is a legally required ceremony for marriages or civil partnerships. It typically takes place in a working office and includes only the essential legal elements.
As well as being a very special day for couples, a marriage or civil partnership ceremony is a formal event where a couple legally commits to each other, in front of witnesses, family, and friends. These ceremonies can be personalised to include the coupes story, reference to children or absent family and friends. You can also choose to include a symbolic ceremony as part of your marriage or civil partnership ceremony.

A dual marriage ceremony typically involves two separate ceremonies, one legal and one independent to honour different beliefs, cultural, religious, or legal traditions. These can be at different venues
