How is it used?
Data used to check eligibility to a pupils free school meal entitlement using the DFE online ECS (eligibility checking system) which links to information held by the DWP and HRMC
Profiling and automated decision making
Automated decision by the DFE Eligibility Checking System but manual checking by B&NES Free School Meals Team takes place in some circumstances to clarify eligibility.

B&NES Admissions in order to check if claimants for free school meals are eligible to free transport. B&NES Music Service in order to check if claimants qualify for free music lessons. Sharing of data with other Local Authorities with regard to cross border pupil school transfers.
How long is the personal data retained by the Council?
Electronic records are saved on LA systems for the pupil’s school life. Paper records are retained for 1 year.
