Notification of a permanent exclusion Privacy Notice

The purpose of processing

The attendance and welfare team are committed to ensuring the privacy and protection of personal data. Our service is responsible for collating information from a school when they have decided to permanently exclude a pupil from their school community.

Data subjects

Children and young people, Parents and carers, Professionals from Education, Social care and Safeguarding.

Personal data

We collect information from parents or carers for children and young people within statutory school age at the point of permanent exclusion.
This will include

Personal information (such as name, address, contact details, date of birth, parent/carer name(s) and contact details, gender). Details of special educational needs and disabilities. Ethnicity. Information about physical or mental health. Details of the incident that led to the exclusion. Support that was accessed in school. School Attendance data. Details of other professionals involved with supporting the young person or family.

How is it used?

We will share your data with the education provider that is allocated to deliver your education until a new school is found and the allocated new school.
We collect, use, and store information and advice in relation to:

Allocating the correct Day 6 provision, this is the education that is put in place by the local authority whilst your permanent exclusion process is completed and until a new school is found. Monitoring the trends within the local authority in relation to permanent exclusions.

Sharing of personal data with external recipients

Teams within B&NES Council or those working with B&NES Council to improve outcomes for children and young people
Commissioned providers of local authority services (such as education) who will deliver the Day 6 provision.

How long is the personal data retained by the Council?

We keep children and young people's information from their date of birth until they reach the age of 25. After this time the information is made inaccessible to system users and securely destroyed.

You have the right to request access to the information we hold about you or your child and to request corrections if necessary. Please contact us if you have any concerns or need further details about how your data is managed.
