Waste and Recycling Services Privacy Notice

The purpose of processing

Bath and North East Somerset Council is committed to protecting your personal data and privacy. This privacy notice explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information in relation to our waste and recycling services.

The information will be used to assess the adequacy of our waste service, a task we carry out in the public interest under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 in accordance with Article 6(1)(e) of GDPR.

Data subjects

Personal data is any information identifying a data subject (a living person to whom the data relates). It includes information relating to a data subject that can be identified (directly or indirectly) from that data alone or in combination with other identifiers Bath and North East Somerset possesses or can reasonably access. Personal data can be factual (for example, a name, email address, location or date of birth) or an opinion about that person’s actions or behaviour.

Personal data

We collect the following types of personal information:
Contact details: Name, address, phone number, and email address.
Service details: Information about your waste and recycling collections, including missed collections and requests for new bins or recycling containers.
Correspondence: Any communications you have with us regarding our services.
Photographic / Video: Any photographs to support us in the consistent provision of service, either taken by colleague on council provided equipment or through on vehicle monitoring.

How is it used?

We use your personal information to:
Provide waste and recycling collection services
Respond to your inquiries and requests
Improve our services and address any issues you report
Comply with legal obligations and regulatory requirements

Service providers: Companies that provide services on our behalf, such as waste collection contractors
Regulatory authorities: Government bodies and agencies to comply with legal obligations
Other councils: If you move to a different area and request waste and recycling services there

How long is the personal data retained by the Council?

We will retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide our services and comply with legal obligations. Typically, this means we will keep your information for up to six years after your last interaction with us.
