Use this page to understand the different types of school admissions, how to apply and how to contact the admissions team.
When a school place is needed within an existing year group, it is known as an in-year admission. A parent or carer can apply for any school they are interested in, regardless of its location. If a place is available within the school's admission number for the appropriate year group, your child can be offered a place.
This offer would usually be held for 28 school days, and does not include weekends or school holidays.
Bath & North East Somerset are the admission authority for the following community schools:
- Newbridge Primary
- Paulton Junior
- St Keyna Primary
- Twerton Infant School
All other schools are Voluntary Aided or Academy who deal with their own admissions for an existing year group.
How to apply for in-year admissions
Application forms for all school places and further information on the admissions process is available on our school in-year applications web page
To apply for a Voluntary Aided or Academy school, you may need to supply a supplementary information form, which you can get from the school you wish to apply for, or from their website.
Applications can take up to 10 school days to process, and you will receive a response in writing within 15 school days.
Find a complete list of all Voluntary Aided and Academy schools and their admission criteria on the schools admissions web pages
If you are refused a place
If your preferred school is full or oversubscribed in the relevant year group, your application for a place will be refused.
You have the right to appeal, or you can opt for your child's details to be added to the waiting list to be considered for any places that become available in the future.
For applications to start in Reception, Year 3 (at a Junior School) or Year 7 (at a secondary school) from September 2022, your application will be dealt with through the bulk transfer process.
This process is managed by your local council.
You must apply through your local council, regardless of the location of the school you wish to apply for. Each admission authority will then consider the applications received and it will be your local council who will inform you of the outcome of your application.
We provide information which explains the admission criteria for all schools in Bath and North East Somerset and the upcoming arrangements for each admission category (reception age group, year 3 in a junior school and year 7 in a secondary school) on our school admissions web pages
