System unavailable

Owing to the processing of our annual billing for 2025-26, our system will be unavailable on 20, 21, 27 and 28 February 2025.

The Council Tax, Business Rates and Debt Recovery phone lines will be closed on these days. Our online account management service will also be unavailable.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

If you work from home, the part of the property used for your work may be subject to non-domestic Business Rates.

If your work space is exclusively used for business purposes

If the part of your home that you use for work is exclusively used for business purposes, we can consider the area separate to your domestic Council Tax account.

The space you use for business purposes, whether a room within the house or a garage, for example, can be given its own Rateable Value by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) and be included in the non-domestic ratings list.

When the space within the domestic property is added to the national non-domestic ratings list, the assessment will then be liable for Business Rates.

To register your property for non-domestic Business Rates, please contact us.

You can find more information about working from home and Business Rates on the GOV.UK website.

If your work space doubles as a living space

If your work space doubles as a living space, or a bedroom, this cannot be assessed separately and will continue to be included in the domestic Council Tax assessment.
