What are we proposing to do?
Bath & North East Somerset Council is proposing a "state-of the-art" waste and recycling centre at Pixash Lane, Keynsham, which would help residents to recycle more, to help tackle the climate emergency.
The proposals would see the council consolidate its current operational facilities at Pixash Lane and Ashmead road in Keynsham onto a redeveloped site at Pixash Lane, which is just to the east of the Ashmead industrial area.
The “behind the scenes” operational waste and recycling transfer station currently at Midland Road in Bath would also move to the site. Bath will keep its own recycling centre for the public to visit, and Bath residents will not be left without at least one, and possibly more, centres for household waste and recycling in the city.
Our aims:

Provide modern, easily-accessible waste and recycling services and facilities for all our residents

Meet the need for household waste and recycling, and kerbside collections, now and in the future

Adapt to changes and take advantage of improved technology and ways of working

Modernise our facilities so we can increase recycling and reduce the amount we send to landfill and for treatment

Help deliver the Council’s core policies of tackling the climate and ecological emergency

Provide a central depot for refuse and recycling collection vehicles, improving our service to residents
In line with the council’s climate and ecological emergency declarations, the scheme will be designed with carefully considered sustainability measures built-in, including construction design and materials, energy efficiency, renewable power, and future maintenance considerations.
The scheme is being designed with future flexibility in mind, to adapt to new recycling developments nd technologies and also carbon reduction measures such as electric vehicle conversion.
What happens next
The consultation closed on 21 December 2020.
