The Shoosmiths Foundation

Grants of between £25,000 and £50,000 are available to UK registered charities in areas where Shoosmiths LLP has a presence for initiatives that will advance a carbon net zero UK.

Applications from small charities with an annual income of under £1 million are encouraged.

The Shoosmiths Foundation builds on their existing community investment programme which continues to support local charity partners through staff fundraising and firm donations, staff volunteering and provision of pro bono legal advice.

Grants of between £25,000 and £50,000 are available.  Applications are restricted to one per charity in areas where the Shoosmiths law firm has a presence.  These are currently:

1. Belfast.
2. Birmingham.
3. Edinburgh.
4. Glasgow.
5. Leeds.
6. London.
7. Manchester.
8. Milton Keynes.
9. Northampton.
10. Nottingham.
11. Sheffield.
12. Solent, and
13. Thames Valley.

The Shoosmiths Foundation offers grants in the following categories: 

  • To advance social mobility in the legal sector, and across the UK, in line with the Shoosmiths social mobility action plan.  Particular focus on charitable organisations which share the Foundation's belief that ‘talent can come from anywhere’, and which align their interventions with local socio-economic analysis and need.
  • Advancing a carbon net zero UK, and
  • Advancing access to justice in the UK. 

Applications are welcomed from UK registered charities that work in any of the following areas:

  • A just transition within a net zero context – so supporting people disproportionately impacted by climate change.  Applications will be invited where, for example, people are being given skills so that they are not left behind as the UK moves towards a decarbonised economy.
  • Assist charities to switch to renewable energy source/s for their property/ies where they operate from may form part of but must not be the sole scope of the application.
  • Provide assistance to vulnerable members of the community to assist them to switch to renewable energy sources for their home energy consumption.
  • Provide net zero awareness and training for specific groups working in the UK eg workplace, specific professions, and/or
  • Provide skills development for UK carbon net zero relevant roles.

The deadline for applications is 4pm on Friday 18 April 2025.
