The Hair and Beauty Charity

Support is available to UK residents in the hairdressing, barber and beauty industry, their spouses and/or children who are faced with challenging and difficult personal circumstances, from mental or physical illness to victims of domestic violence.

The Charity was founded for the following charitable purposes:

  • Rendering assistance in cases of need by way of annuities and/or grants to past and present members of the hairdressing, barber and beauty industry, their spouses and/or children, and
  • Granting relief in cases by way of grants to non-members connected with the hairdressing, barber and beauty industries of any nationality and resident in the UK.

Help is typically provided to those who:

  • Become ill or disabled
  • Have a terminal illness
  • Have mental health problems
  • Have become homeless
  • Become carers for elderly relatives, children, spouses/partners or other dependents
  • Have suffered a bereavement which has adversely affected their financial circumstances, and/or
  • Are without sufficient income to meet basic needs

There is no minimum or maximum grant award level, although priority is given to individuals who have savings of less than £500 and whose income is less or not significantly higher than their expenditure.  The Charity takes this approach so that it can help as many hairdressers, barbers and beauticians and their young children as possible.  Funding is only available for those in the hairdressing, barber and beauty industry in the UK.

The Charity aims to continue its grant-making and, where possible, expand its grant programme over the next twelve months.

Applicants are normally asked the following questions:

•    How long have you been involved in the hair and beauty industry?
•    When did you last work in the industry?
•    What help are you looking for?
•    Why do you need the help?

The Charity reviews all applications and decides who to help and what kind of help would be most appropriate.  Its guiding principle is that it helps professional hairdressers, barbers and beauticians in need and all applications will be considered against this principle.
