The Surviving Winter Fund has been created through the generosity of local donors who have given their Winter Fuel Payment, or made a donation, to help older or vulnerable people in the West of England who need additional support during the winter as a result of the cold weather. It is in response to the high number of pensioner and other households likely to be experiencing fuel poverty.
The Surviving Winter Fund will this year support projects run by voluntary and community groups with charitable aims whose work helps older and vulnerable people who are experiencing fuel poverty, isolation and acute financial pressures during winter. Grants up to £5,000 are available.
Projects including those that:-
- Provide advice/ information to prevent older or vulnerable people from experiencing problems with crisis fuel poverty and help them deal with financial pressures during winter.
- Prevent older people from becoming isolated during the winter months and support older people’s wellbeing and promote social cohesion and/or ensure that lifeline activities continue or increase during the winter months (for example, provision of a warm meal).
