The Alice McCosh Trust

A limited number of grants. normally around £1,000, are available to individuals in Scotland, England, Turkey and Uganda for work or study related to natural history and/or the environment.

The aim of the Alice McCosh Trust is to advance education by providing or assisting with grants for work or study related to natural history and/or the environment.

This is a modest grant-making Trust that usually awards a very small number of one-off grants each year that are in the region of £1,000. 

To give applicants some idea of the sort of projects that can be supported, several examples of previously awarded grants are provided on the Trust’s website, such as:

  • Covering the cost of producing materials that enhance knowledge and understanding of natural history and the environment.
  • Encouraging people to understand and protect the environment, and
  • Fieldwork as part of a research project, costs of producing materials that enhance knowledge and understanding of natural history and the environment, or that encourage people to engage.

Applications should meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Applicants can be any age and should be undertaking work or study related to natural history and/or the environment.
  • Applicants can be any nationality but preference will be given to individuals from (or work relating to) Scotland, England, Turkey or Uganda, and
  • Applicants must begin their work within 12 months of receiving the award.

Applicants should complete the Trust's application form answering all the questions and keeping to the specified word limits.  The final question (Q15) should not exceed one A4 page.  Completed application forms should be saved as a single Word or PDF document, with the applicant’s full name as the file name.

Applications are usually accepted between 1 October and 30 November annually.  Applications received outside of this time frame tend to be automatically rejected.
