The TUUT Charitable Trust

Small, medium and large grants are available to UK registered charities working in the UK and/or overseas that are working at a political level and can demonstrate a close relationship with the trade union movement.

The TUUT Charitable Trust was set up by the trade union movement in 1969 for the sole purpose of owning TU Fund Managers Limited and subsequently TU Additions Limited and TU Financial Management Services Limited.  The intention was – and still is – that profits distributed by the company’s should go to good causes rather than individual shareholders.

It is a requirement of the Trust Deed that all the trustees must be trades unionists, the intention being to ensure that causes which benefit should broadly be those that would be supported by the movement.  Trade unions and individuals are free to nominate favoured causes, all of which are reviewed by the trustees before any payment is made.

The Trust’s priority is on supporting charities working at a political level.  Its Charity Commission entry lists its preferred areas of support as:

  • Children and young people.
  • Elderly/older people.
  • People with disabilities, and
  • Other charities or voluntary bodies.

Limited information about the Trust is available on its website.  Further information is, however, available in its entry with the Charity Commission.

The Trust does not have a formal application process.  Supported causes should be nominated by Trade Unions and members of trade unions.  The Trust can be contacted at any time in writing.
