Church Care Grants

Grants, normally of up to £10,000, are available for the conservation of historic Anglican church interiors and churchyard structures in England.

The Church of England’s Church Care grants programme supports the conservation of historic Anglican church interiors and churchyard structures in partnership with the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Pilgrim Trust, the Radcliffe Trust, the Oswald Allen Bequest, the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, the Gunnis Fund, and the Anglican Parish Churches Fund.

Please note that Church Care grants are funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF).  Receipt of a direct grant from the NLHF makes a church ineligible for additional funding through the Church Care programme.

The following funding is available:

Bells and Bell Frames - grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of bells and bell frames in Anglican parish churches in England.  The previous closing date was Monday 31 March 2025 for decisions on Thursday 23 May 2025.  The next application deadline is likely to be in the autumn 2025.

Books and Manuscripts - grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of books, manuscripts and parochial libraries in Anglican parish churches in England.  The next deadline is Monday 9 June 2025 for decisions on Friday 25 July 2025.

Church Plate - grants for the repair of church plate in Anglican parish churches in England, in partnership with the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths.  The next deadline is Monday 9 June 2025 for decisions on Friday 25 July 2025.

Churchyard Structures - grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of individually listed churchyard structures such as tombs, external monuments, grave markers, churchyard walls, railings and gates, in Anglican parish churches in England.  The next deadline is Monday 9 June 2025 for decisions on Friday 25 July 2025.

Clocks - grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of turret clocks in Anglican parish churches in England.  The next deadline is Monday 7 April 2025 for decisions on Friday 23 May 2025.

Monumental Brasses and Decorative Metalwork - grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of monumental brasses and decorative metalwork in Anglican parish churches in England including metal screens, internal railings, plaques and memorials.  The next deadline is Monday 9 June 2025 for decisions on Friday 25 July 2025.

Monuments - grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of monuments in Anglican parish churches in England.  The next deadline is Monday 9 June 2025 for decisions on Friday 25 July 2025.

Organs and Organ Cases - grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of organs and organ cases in Anglican parish churches in England. The next deadline is Monday 2 June 2025 for decisions on Friday 25 July 2025.

Paintings and Wall Paintings - grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of wall paintings and paintings in Anglican parish churches in England.  The deadline for applications is likely to be in January 2026 (date to be confirmed) for a decision in March 2026.

Stained Glass - grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of stained glass, painted glass, and plain glazing of historical or artistic significance in Anglican parish churches in England.  The deadline for applications is Monday 11 August 2025 for decisions on Friday 26 September 2025.

Textiles - grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of textiles in Anglican parish churches in England. The next deadline is Monday 9 June 2025 for decisions on Friday 25 July 2025.

Wooden Objects -  grants of up to £10,000 for the conservation of woodwork and wooden objects in Anglican parish churches in England, such as reredoses, screens, wooden crosses, pulpits and pews.  The next deadline is Monday 9 June 2025 for decisions on Friday 25 July 2025.
