Permissive paths

Use this page to find out what a permissive path is.

Permissive path definition

A 'permissive path' is a path where the landowner has granted permission for public use.

A landowner can withdraw their permission at any time. By granting permission, the landowner is communicating a lack of intention to dedicate the route as a public right of way.

These routes can provide a useful addition to the wider outdoor access network.
