You can apply for a Temporary Playing Out Road Closure Order to close your street to traffic to let your children play safely A Playing Out Road Closure Order is different from a street party closure application, as you can apply to shut your street regularly.
The scheme is to encourage children playing together safely outdoors, within sight of their guardians, and to promote feelings of community safety and cohesion.
You can close a road as often as once a month for a maximum of three hours.
Residents that live on the closed road must be allowed vehicular access at all times, and must be marshalled through by a volunteer.
The scheme was inspired by Playing Out, a Bristol-based not-for-profit Community Interest Company. We support their aims and objectives, which enable children to play freely in the street in their local neighbourhood, and process all applications via our Transportation team.
