Refer a family member or friend
If you are concerned that a family member or friend is homeless, sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness, you can contact us for advice and support.
You can get help from us by doing any of the following:
- visiting our Housing, Welfare and Advice Service in Bath
- visiting an Information and Advice Centre in Keynsham or Midsomer Norton
- using our online form to inform our housing team
Our online form is the fastest way to contact us.
We will ask you a few questions about the person you want to refer, so we can understand their situation and give them the help they need.
Refer a service user from another public authority
We are the local housing authority for the area. If you work for another public authority in Bath and North East Somerset, you have a legal duty to contact us if you think one of your service users is at risk of homelessness.
Public authorities who need to refer service users include:
- Prisons
- Hospitals
- Urgent treatment centres and emergency departments
- Youth offender institutions
- Probation services
- Social service authorities
- Secure training centres
- Secure colleges
- Jobcentre Plus
The Secretary of State for Defence also has a duty to refer at-risk members of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, the Royal Airforce and the British Army.

What happens next
We will usually respond to enquiries through our online form within 5 days.
If we can verify that the person you have referred is homeless or at risk of homelessness, we will assist them to find suitable accommodation and work with them to create a personal housing plan.
