Register of common land and town and village green
We are responsible for maintaining a register of Common Land and Town and Village Greens, which you can inspect. To view the register, please contact the Land Charges department at land_charges@bathnes.gov.uk or by calling Council Connect on 01225 394041
Registering a town or village green
A village green is any piece of land which locals have had access to for a period of at least 20 years. People could have used these pieces of land for dog walking, fruit picking and sports. If a member of the public can provide evidence that a piece of land has become a town or village green, they can apply to have it recorded as one.
Before you register a town or village green, please read guidance from the Department for Environment Food & Rural Affairs
To register a town or village green, you can complete a copy of the Defra application form.
Corrective Orders
We have the power to make Corrective Orders under section 19(2)(a) to (e) of the Commons Act 2006. These orders rectify certain mistakes and omissions made when the registers were opened in the 1960s; for example, by deregistering wrongly registered common land.
If you want to ask for a Corrective Order to be made, you will need to pay an £850 fee when you make your application. You will also have to pay the Planning Inspectorate's charges if the case is referred for determination.
