A waste transfer station is a central hub where the waste and recycling we collect is taken to be sorted before it is sent for further processing. With the correct waste carrier's license and registration, you can take your business waste and recycling straight to the waste transfer station.

Our commercial waste disposal and recycling operations are moving to our new site in Keynsham and we will no longer be accepting any commercial waste and recycling at our Transfer Station at Midland Road in Bath.
From Monday 22nd January 2024 our new transfer station for commercial waste disposal & recycling operations will be open at the new site address:

At the new site we will be extending our opening hours to be open all day. Opening hours will be:
Monday – Thursday 8am – 3:30pm (Last entry 3:30pm)
Friday 8am – 3pm (Last entry 3pm)
Please be aware on your first visit to the new site you will need a Health & Safety site induction to be completed, so please allow additional time to complete this as you will not be able to use the site until completed.

We charge a fee for you to dispose of your business waste at our waste transfer station. However, we do offer a reduction to customers who sort their waste for recycling before they deliver it to our waste transfer station.
Costs for sorted and unsorted waste and recycling from 1 April 2024
Sorted recycling 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025
Reduced fee (including timber and wood) £110.56 per tonne, with a minimum charge of £55.28 (0.5 tonnes).
Reduced fee (no timber and wood) £85.60 per tonne, with a minimum charge of £42.80 (0.5 tonnes).
Each load must only contain the following recyclable items:
- Greenery
- Timber and wood
- Rubble and soil
- Metals
- Cardboard
You can bring a mixture of these items in the same vehicle, but they must be separated and must not include any non-recyclable items. We will charge you for unsorted waste if you bring any non-recyclable items.
Unsorted waste 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025
We don't recycle unsorted waste.
£204.91 per tonne, with a minimum charge of £102.46 (equivalent to 0.5 tonnes).
Loads containing any upholstered domestic seating 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025
£328.80 per tonne (no minimum charge).
We only accept fridges, freezers and TVs from a business at the transfer station if you can prove they have been collected from a private domestic household.
Mattresses 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025
Charges for mattresses are as follows:
- £24.55 for a single
- £27.36 for a double
If you need to weigh your vehicle, you can use our public weighbridge at our transfer station.
Weighbridge costs from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025
All vehicles £12.35 per weigh.
Our costs are outside the scope of VAT as we're a local authority providing the service.
You can pay by credit or debit card at our waste transfer station.
To pay for extra building waste, use this page to view and pay the extra building waste charge. You can bring two 50-litre bags or one bulky item of building waste per visit, up to a maximum of four visits in a four week period. If you have more to dispose of you must pay the extra building waste charge.
We can also offer a monthly account if you regularly use our transfer station. To set up a monthly account or to find out more, please email us at businesswaste@bathnes.gov.uk.
We regret that we're not licensed to collect or receive any hazardous waste from businesses at our waste transfer station.
If you deal with waste which has certain hazardous properties, you must ensure your business complies with the hazardous waste regulations set out on GOV.UK.
We have to separately dispose of any upholstered domestic seating items taken to our transfer stations as they may contain Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
Upholstered domestic seating includes any of the following items from homes or businesses:
- sofas
- sofa beds
- armchairs
- upholstered kitchen and dining room chairs
- upholstered stools and foot stools
- home office chairs
- futons
- bean bags
- floor and sofa cushions
The harmful pollutants are found in any part of the seating made of, or containing, leather, synthetic leather, other fabric or foam.
If a load of waste contains any upholstered domestic seating items it will incur a higher charge per tonne. We have removed the minimum charge from this category, so if you are able to bring in items that contain POPs separately from other waste, then we can still continue to recycle and offer competitive rates on the other items.
If you are bringing upholstered domestic seating to our site, please make the weighbridge operator aware. And if you plan to dispose of any damaged items of upholstered seating, please tape up any rips or tears, or for larger areas wrap the item in polythene before bringing it to site.
Any domestic seating items which are not upholstered, for example, a wooden chair without a cushioned or textile back, seat, or arms and deckchairs, are not affected and will continue to be charged at normal disposal rates.
