Councillors are elected by local residents and make decisions on how we operate as a Council. Their role is to represent the residents of the area they are elected in and to uphold the public interest generally. They will usually serve for four years at a time, and are expected to have regular contact with the public.
Councillors are not paid a salary for their work, but they do receive allowances. They are required to attend council meetings, in which they make decisions for the future direction of the Council.
