Monitoring and evaluation
Monitoring and evaluation would take place following the implementation of each scheme, including surveys at 6 and 12 month post-completion.
It is important to identify how we will measure whether a scheme is meeting its objectives. For each scheme that proceeds following consultation we will undertake the following both before and after it is implemented:
- Surveys asking residents, businesses, pedestrians, cyclists and other road users what they think of the current traffic situation in the area concerned.
- Data collected on the number of motor vehicles (with classifications), cyclists and pedestrians.
- Data collected on queues or congestion, where this is relevant to the scheme.
- General data collection such as vehicle speeds and accident statistics.
- Informal observations.
If the North Road closure goes ahead as an experiment, comments or objections will continue to be collected during the first six months that it’s in place. The experiment would last no longer than 18 months, and within this time all of the feedback received would be reviewed together with any relevant data, to enable a decision to be made on whether it should be modified, made permanent or removed.
