Why we are consulting

We are considering making changes to the way that we assess and calculate Council Tax Support for claimants who get Universal Credit. After listening to feedback from local organisations and the community, we are aiming to make our Local Council Tax Support (LCTS) scheme as fair as possible, while prioritising the highest levels of support for the people in the greatest need.

We are asking for your comments on the proposals described in this consultation document. 

Who we are consulting

We are inviting local residents and organisations who will be most affected by the proposals to give us your views on the changes. However, anyone is welcome to respond to this consultation and share their views.

What happens next

We will use feedback from this consultation to help to make the final decision about the regulations for our Local Council Tax Support Scheme. We will implement these changes, if approved, from April 2024; they will then determine how much support households receive towards their Council Tax bill.
