Why we are consulting
Bath and North East Somerset are on a Journey to Net Zero. And we need your help to get us there. Almost a third of our district’s carbon emissions come from transport, so we must act now to create a cleaner, greener Bath, that works for us all.
To help shape how we travel into, out of and around Bath in the future, we would like your views on The Journey to Net Zero: Reducing the environmental impact of transport in Bath. This plan sets out our long-term plans that support travel on foot, by bike and by public transport.
Your views will help to shape the way we deliver the solutions we need to create a cleaner, fairer, safer and less congested environment that enables us to lower our carbon emissions.
What we are consulting on
The Journey to Net Zero plan outlines projects that will support us on our journey to carbon neutrality. We have divided these into three categories:
- Current projects
- Projects that are already underway or have been delivered recently. These projects have been consulted on, and, assuming the resource and funding is available, will be delivered (if they have not already)
- Developing projects
- Projects which are under development and are subject to consultation and approval, currently or in the very near future
- Future projects
- Emerging projects that are not currently under development, but could be pursued, in order to support the ambition to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030
This consultation asks for your suggestions on the future projects only. We will use your feedback to better understand how these schemes will affect you, and to guide us in deciding which to follow, and how to implement those we select.

What happens next
This consultation will be open until 5pm on Monday 7 February 2022. Please note we are unable to reply to individual responses, due to the large number we are likely to receive. However, we will publish a report on the results of this consultation.
Following the consultation, we will update the Journey to Net Zero plan, before seeking approval in May 2022. We will then start to develop more detailed business cases for the measures identified in the plan.
