This project has a number of objectives and benefits, including direct service improvements for residents, overall service future-proofing and effectiveness, and broader council policy targets.
Service delivery objectives
- Providing modern, easily-accessible waste and recycling services and facilities for all our residents
- Future-proofing our service: meeting the need for household waste and recycling, and kerbside collections, now and in the future
- Providing a central depot for refuse and recycling collection vehicles, improving our service to residents
- Creating an operational hub, to ensure our residents have continuous access to household waste and recycling centres local to them
Service effectiveness
- Adapting to changes and taking advantage of improved technology and ways of working
- Modernising our facilities, so we can increase recycling and reduce the amount we send to landfill and for treatment
Wider council policy objectives and community benefits
- Helping deliver the Council’s core policies of Tackling the Climate and Ecological Emergencies (and changes to the Environment Bill)
- Creating new employment opportunities for local people and business supply chains during construction and once operational
- Providing educational facilities and opportunities for school and community groups
Farrans Social Value Plan
As part of a Social Value Plan developed with us, the project contractor Farrans is working with partners in Keynsham and the wider Bath and North East Somerset area during the construction to provide employment and training opportunities, support the local economy and engage with educational and community initiatives. If you’d like to find out more about Farrans’ community support, skills training or apprenticeship opportunities, please email Keynsham@farrans.com.
