We have a duty to co-operate on strategic planning issues that cross administrative boundaries, and must collaborate with other strategic authorities, to identify any relevant strategic matters which need to be addressed. View more about regulations and responsibilities around plan-making on the GOV.UK website.
It's particularly important for us to identify cross-boundary strategic issues, in the absence of an adopted sub-regional Spatial Development Strategy. In our sub-region, these types of wider issues relating to our Local Plan could include the following:
- Addressing the sub-region’s housing need
- Strategic highway issues
- Flooding
We will liaise with the prescribed Duty to Cooperate bodies (such as the Planning Inspectorate) in identifying the cross-boundary strategic issues, and work jointly with these bodies to address them, through the preparation of the Local Plan. We will prepare and maintain a Statement of Common Ground documenting the cross-boundary matters and progress in co-operation.
