Use this page to learn more about local exemptions and view a map of the proposed charging scheme including the exemption area.
Our map identifies the following areas:
- The charging scheme area, following the existing CAZ boundary (shown in red)
- A wider area which will provide exemptions from the Class N3 Euro 6 diesel HGVs charge for eligible, local businesses for two years (shown in blue)
You can view the postcode areas in the exemption zone by selecting an area on our interactive map:
Exemption eligibility in the wider area
We have used routing analysis and local knowledge about weight-restricted routes in Bath and the surrounding area to be able to propose a suitable, time-limited exemption zone.
If these proposals are successful, you will be eligible for an exemption if one or more of the following criteria is true:
- The Class N3 Euro 6 diesel HGV in question is permanently based within the area and they have no viable alternative route without using a diversion which would result in an increased journey time of 20 minutes or more to avoid the charging scheme area
- You are a local business located in the area which relies on a delivery or collection by a Class N3 Euro 6 diesel HGV vehicle and there is no viable alternative route without using a diversion which would result in an increased journey time of 20 minutes or more to avoid the charging scheme area
Charges and soft enforcement policy
If our proposals are successful, the £50 charge would apply 24 hours a day, every day of the year when entering the charging scheme area as identified on the map.
We would employ a period of soft enforcement for the first six months of the scheme after the launch. This would not levy any charges incurred but would ensure that operators receive warning letters advising them that their vehicles could be liable for a charge when entering the charging scheme area.
We would provide additional signage on key routes to alert drivers of the charges, and provide a comprehensive communications campaign to raise awareness.
