Cleveland Bridge renovation project

Information for coaches and heavy goods vehicles

When surveys identified the urgent need for repairs to the bridge, we put in place a temporary ban on heavier vehicles (18 tonnes and over), to protect the structure from further deterioration and damage. Our research shows that this ban affects around 600 vehicles per day.

This order is not permanent. If our monitoring shows there are no issues, the bridge could re-open to normal traffic loads of up to 44 tonnes. ANPR cameras have been installed for any vehicles breaking the weight restriction, and the Police and Trading Standards have the powers to enforce the restrictions.
