Project timeline

The timeline below shows the project stages we will follow if this scheme is approved to go ahead. We will update this page when more details become available.

1. Council internal consultation

   Completed 2021

   The first stage of the consultation saw local Ward Members, Bath & North East Somerset Cabinet Members for Transport and the police approve the plans to consult on the ETRO.

   This stage has already been completed, and the ETRO will now go to public consultation.

2. Public consultation

   Completed November 2021 to May 2022

   This consultation gives you an opportunity to state your support or objection to the ETRO for Milsom Street.

   We will publish a feedback report after this period of consultation.

3. ETRO extension decision

   Completed Spring 2022

   Our Director of Place Management will make the decision about taking the scheme forward, based on the results of the public consultation.

   This will be the decision on what to do in the longer term. We have several options:

   • We can assess how well the bus gate and associated measures work for a longer period as an ongoing experiment, potentially up to a further 12 months
   • We could modify how the scheme works, based on feedback and make it permanent at this stage
   • We could make the scheme permanent, as it currently is
   • We could remove the scheme entirely

   The outcome and decision of the ETRO consultation will be published in Spring 2022.

4. Possible further ETRO trial period

   Completed Summer 2022

   If the scheme goes ahead, we will implement the Milsom Street bus gate on a 12-month trial basis.

5. Decision on making the bus gate permanent

   Completed March 2023

   We have decided to make the Milsom Street bus gate permanent.

6. Cycle storage and street furniture improvements

   On target Ongoing, 2021 to 2026

   We will upgrade and improve street furniture and cycle storage provision on Milsom Street, as part of our phased improvement programme.

   The improved street furniture and cycle storage facilities will help to promote active travel and reduce carbon emissions.

   This phased improvement scheme is funded by the WECA Love our High Streets programme, which aims to support the regeneration of high streets in the West of England.
